The first 32-bit game console to use CD-ROM media - Donald8's blog
There are consoles that are little known to the general public and it is, even more the case when the machine does not crossed the barriers of its country as with the FM Towns Marty of Fujitsu.
Marketed on February 20, 1993 only in Japan, the FM Towns Marty is not only the first console to use the CD-ROM support but also the first 32 bits.
Sold at its launch 98 ¥ ¥ (774 €), FM Towns Marty was delivered with a two-button controller and also had a port for a second controller. A mouse and a keyboard were also available.
This is the 1st console to have an integrated CD player.
Some technical notions:
Processor: 386 32-bit clocked at 16 MHz
Memory: - 2 MB RAM- 640 KB for graphics
More original, there is a floppy disk drive. The joystick is very classic, with its directional cross and two buttons.
To finish with the numbers:
Graphic palette: 32768 colors
Displayed colors: 256
Resolution: 352 × 232 and 640 × 480 pixels
Sound: 6 Channel FM and 8 Channel PCM
And the games, will you tell me. It is listed a pretty large number and before seeing some visuals, you can consult the list of FM Towns Marty Games in Cliquantici.
Titles that are certainly not foreign to you.
What I was able to spend time on "Lemmings" but I admit it was on the Amiga of Commodore.
The size of game boxes was much larger than the CD in question. Games could reach $ 140.
big names as you can see.
Games for all tastes.
The Marty 2 comes out in 1993 with, again a first, an internet connection and a more powerful processor.
She meets a little more success than the first version but the Sony surgery will be right.
A very rare console that has difficulty finding.
